Amaris Noguera answered:You may also want to re-frame your idea of "fast food" as well. Sometimes, putting something simple together at home or grabbing something out of the fridge (to eat in the car if you can, or to eat at your desk if you must) is a faster option than stopping by a drive-thru establishment. For example, the following foods are great healthy alternatives that are also on-the-go friendly (all of these could be prepped the night before as well):
- Bagel thin, sandwich thin (100 calories breads), mini-bagel or whole wheat English muffin with all-natural peanut butter (the kind without "hydrogenated oil" in the ingredients list) & honey.
- A whole apple or pear and a high-fiber granola bar.
- A travel mug with low-fat milk and a zip-lock bag with high-fiber, high-protein cold cereal.
- Trail mix with a whole banana.
- Red grapes with low-fat cheese cubes.
- Individually-packaged low-fat cottage cheese, or non-fat Greek yogurt for a high-protein start to your day.
- Hard-boiled egg with whole grain crackers.
- Old fashioned oatmeal soaked overnight in non-fat milk, cinnamon, and dried fruit of your choice in a transportable plastic container.

RealAge answered:Choose your breakfast wisely. Your morning meal can make or break your calorie intake for the entire day. The best choice? A light, healthy, sensible breakfast -- like a slice of whole-grain toast with a tablespoon of peanut butter, or a small bowl of whole-grain cereal with skim milk. In a study, obese and normal-weight people consumed fewer total daily calories when they kept their breakfasts light -- about 250 calories.
Less Is MoreYep, turns out breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Especially if you're trying to control your weight. Although people tend to eat a set number of calories for lunch and dinner, the study revealed that big breakfasts may lead to bigger meals all day long. So take the opportunity to knock down your daily calorie intake by exercising portion control in the morning. You don't want to skip breakfast altogether; that just sets you up for overeating later. But don't think of breakfast as a daily freebie, where you get to chow down to your heart's content. A light, low-calorie breakfast will help you snack less later on but still help you feel satisfied at the start of your day.
Breakfast PitfallsIn the study, it mattered not only how much people ate at breakfast but what they ate, too. When people ate things like eggs, sausage, cheese, marmalade, and butter for breakfast, they tended to overdo it. So don't grab just anything from the kitchen. Stock up on fresh fruit and whole-grain items that you can prepare -- or grab -- quickly.
