Dr. Mohamed Djelmami-Hani of Aurora Health Care answered:

After a synchronized cardioversion -- a procedure used to correct an irregular heartbeat (dysrhythmia) -- you will be taken back to your room. You will rest for about two to three hours or until the sedation has worn off. During this time, the nurse will check your blood pressure and general physical condition. The nurse also will monitor your heart rate and rhythm. You will be able to eat and drink when the nurse feels that you are fully awake.

Your doctor may order different medicines than you were taking before the procedure. These medicines will be explained to you before you go home. A few patients may have slight redness or tenderness where the defibrillator patches touched the skin. If this happens, the nurse will apply a soothing ointment to relieve the discomfort.
