After foot surgery, you'll be given pain medication to use at home while you recover -- often a prescription medication, such as one containing oxycodone or codeine. After the operation, the area will be covered with a bandage. Depending on the procedure, you may have to wear a special surgical shoe or a plaster splint or cast to protect your foot while it heals. Your doctor may recommend sturdy or open shoes. You may also be sent to a physical therapist to help you regain function and mobility in the foot. Your doctor may prescribe home exercises to strengthen your foot and keep it flexible.
