    Echocardiography is a test that obtains an image of the structure and motion of the heart using ultrasound (inaudible, high-frequency sound waves). It is used to detect cardiomyopathy (any weakening or deformity of the heart muscle that causes a decreased force of pumping) and other abnormalities of the heart wall, valves and large blood vessels.
