UnitedHealthcare answered:The early retiree reinsurance program provides federal grants to help employers offer group health coverage to early retirees.
The program became effective June 1, 2010. Claim submissions and reimbursements began in October 2010. This is a temporary program, ending in 2014 or when the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first. Applications are no longer being accepted as of May 6, 2011.
This provision is part of the health care reform law, also known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
