What will a duplex ultrasonography show about ED?

Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:A duplex ultrasonography can help determine whether a particular case of erectile dysfunction (ED) is caused by cardiovascular problems. Many cases are caused by cardiovascular problems, and in fact, problems with erections are often an early warning sign of heart disease. This test shows blood flow through the penis, and can determine whether blood is flowing well, whether there are any calcium deposits (a sign of cardiovascular disease), and whether there is any scarring within the penis.A duplex ultrasonography can help determine whether a particular case of erectile dysfunction (ED) is caused by cardiovascular problems. Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) answered:Penile ultrasound, also known as duplex ultrasonography, uses high frequency sound waves to image blood vessels and tissues in the penis to diagnose erectile dysfunction (ED) caused by a medical condition that decreases blood flow to the penis needed for an erection.
An ultrasound scan can show whether blood vessels have become leaky or are narrowed because of cardiovascular (heart and vessel) disease, as well as whether there is hardened scar tissue in the penis (a condition known as “Peyronie’s disease”) that can interfere with an erection. The test is done while the penis is flaccid and when it’s erect (you are usually given a drug that causes an erection).
