    Neither computed tomography (CT) nor X-ray is as good at looking at soft tissues (cartilage, nerves, and organs) as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. MRI does not use radiation, but rather radio waves and magnetic fields. The major drawbacks of routine MRI usage are the time and expense of the procedure. It may be uncomfortable for some people because it can produce claustrophobia.
