Health insurance exclusions vary by plan but generally speaking can include conditions such as asthma, arthritis, cancer, or diabetes, to name a few. Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, a new employer is limited in excluding an employee from health plan coverage due to a pre-existing condition. For more information regarding health insurance exclusions for a pre-existing condition, contact your state’s insurance commissioner's office.
