Here is a list of common vaccine requirements by schools and other child care and child education institutions:

Highly Recommended (Required by virtually all school systems in the U.S.)
    • DTaP (the a means that it's a less reactive form of the pertussis vaccine)
    • Polio
    • MMR (or separate measles, mumps, and rubella)
    • Hepatitis B (but does not need to be given at birth)
    • Varicella
    • Hib

Recommended (Required for school or day care - check your U.S. state)
    • Hepatitis A
    • Meningococcal conjugate
    • Pneumococcal conjugate especially important if you have depressed immunity (spleen removed), diabetes, asthma, or other heart or lung diseases

    Optional (Not commonly required)
    • Rotavirus (unless your child is in day care, in which case it is highly recommended)
    • Influenza (ditto for this one, and highly recommended for all children with asthma, congenital heart disease, and other risk factors)
