Numbness and tingling are often warning symptoms that nerves are not working correctly. The causes of these symptoms are numerous and deserve evaluation. Among the causes are stroke, diabetes, exposure to toxins, liver disease (e.g. due to alcohol), decreased blood supply to the nerves or to an entire extremity, medication side effect, and possibly inherited causes.

Patients with these symptoms need to seek medical evaluation, Frequently, additional testing to determine the cause, and therefore the treatment, will be necessary.
