What causes herpes simplex?
-
A herpes simplex infection is caused by a virus. The virus causes sores to form in and on various areas of the body, especially the mouth and the genitals. When these sores come in contact with another person, the virus is easily spread. Sometimes the infection is transmitted even when no sores are visible. This highly contagious virus spreads through touching, sharing items such as drinking glasses and towels, and sexual activity.
