    When tracking your distance without a pedometer you can try these:

    1. Try driving your walking route and track the mileage that way.

    2. MapQuest your walking route to calculate the distance.

    3. Time yourself. How long does it take you to walk a mile? Once you have averaged your 1 mile walk time you can use a watch or timer to estimate your distance.

    Be sure to map out your walks.  Use a program such as mapmyrun.com to map your walk.  This will allow you to know the length in which you walk.  Also, the average person needs 2,000 steps for every mile.  Using this reference may allow you to figure out how many steps you walk during your walk.
