What does breathing have to do with my cells?

Pam Grout answered:Needless to say, all this nonstop activity requires fuel - lots and lots of it.
This is where respiration comes in. The fuel that runs your body is oxygen. Granted, your body requires food and water, too, but the key ingredient that turns that food and water into energy is none other than simple, everyday oxygen. Unfortunately, most of us aren't getting enough oxygen every day. So consequently, we're not providing our cells with the proper fuel.
While the body is great at storing reserves of carbohydrates, protein, and other necessities, it is impossible to store up oxygen. You must continue to supply it breath after breath. Your cells can't operate without oxygen. They just won't work properly. You can eat sprouts for breakfast, tofu for lunch, and blue-green algae for dinner, but if you're not nourishing your cells with enough oxygen, they're never going to be completely healthy.
