Effexor XR may cause dizziness or sleepiness and individuals taking this antidepressant should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until they know how this medication affects them.

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medication and inform your doctor about all other medications, over-the-counter medications, supplements and herbs you may be taking. Individuals taking MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) should not take Effexor XR.

It is very important to avoid missing doses or abruptly stopping or lowering the amount of the medication. That can trigger mood changes or physical symptoms, such as nausea, dizziness, headaches, tiredness or flu-like symptoms. Talk to your doctor about adjusting your dosage.
