If you are a woman taking Erivedge (vismodegib), you should avoid becoming pregnant, and if you are a man taking Erivedge, you should make sure your sexual partner does not become pregnant. In either case, the drug can be fatal to a developing fetus or cause birth defects. If you are a mother, you should not breastfeed while you are taking Erivedge. You should avoid giving blood while taking Erivedge and for seven months after you stop taking it.
If you need antibiotics, make sure your doctor knows you're taking Erivedge because some of these drugs can increase Erivedge's side effects. Also tell your doctor if you're taking drugs for heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) such as proton pump inhibitors. Some of these drugs may reduce absorption of Erivedge, although this hasn't been well studied.
