Over-the-counter applications are usually effective in treating warts, however, they take time and do not stop new warts from developing. Doctors can provide several treatment options that range from application of a cream, to freezing of the wart, to laser surgical removal.

Generally, warts will go away on their own within a few years. However, if the warts are causing pain or distress, there are several treatment options. These options include topical and oral medication, freezing, minor or laser surgery, immunotherapy, and several other remedies. Most of these solutions create some skin irritation and require frequent return visits to the doctor's office before taking full effect.
