What are the symptoms of sciatica?

Sciatica is a symptom of a sciatic nerve problem. It typically refers to pain that starts from your lower back and travels down to various points along the back of your leg, or even into your foot. The pain may be mild, or it may be excruciatingly uncomfortable. It may even feel like an electric shock. Coughing, sneezing, or sitting may aggravate it. In addition to the pain, you may also experience weakness, numbness, or tingling sensations. Sciatica typically only occurs on one side of your body.
