Dr. Dean Ornish answered:The average American consumes more than 31⁄2 pounds of spices annually, but nearly half of that is pepper and mustard seed (in prepared mustard). Mustard seeds are mentioned in ancient Sanskrit writings dating back about five thousand years, as well as in the New Testament. They contain lots of protective substances called phytonutrients, which may inhibit the growth of existing cancer cells as well as helping prevent normal cells from turning into cancer cells.
