What are the symptoms of coma?

A person who is in a coma cannot be aroused. Their eyes remain closed, and their heart and circulation continue to function, but their breathing may be irregular. They may be unable to respond to any stimuli, and will not avoid pain, but may retain basic reflexes and perhaps spontaneous movement. People in a comatose state may look normal, but they cannot move or respond to the world around them.
