If you follow your dentist’s instructions, the risks of fixing a broken tooth are minimal. In fact, the benefits of receiving treatment for a broken tooth far outweigh any risks. Leaving a broken tooth untreated can lead to even more severe tooth problems in the future.

If your dentist instructs you to avoid chewing on the damaged tooth, or to take pain relievers or medicine to prevent infection, be sure to do this. With any type of dental surgery, there is always the risk of infection, but if you follow the dentist’s orders and return to the office for a follow-up visit, you should be in the clear.
