What are prosthetics?

Prosthetics are artificial replacements for missing parts of the body. When a part of the body - usually a limb, like an arm or a leg - is missing, a prosthesis may be attached in its place. The prosthesis is fitted by a doctor but is regularly attached and removed by the patient on their own. Prosthetics may help people resume some activities that they may not have been able to do with a missing limb.
