What are dentures?

Dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile. Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. You’ll be able to eat and speak—things that people often take for granted until their natural teeth are lost.

There are two types of dentures: complete dentures for when all teeth are lost or overdentures to replace only some teeth.

Dentures are false teeth used to replace natural teeth. This may be necessary later in life as your natural teeth fall out or have been removed. It’s important to understand, however, that not everyone loses teeth as they get older. Dentures are usually made out of plastic. You can get complete dentures if all your teeth are gone and partial dentures if you still have some natural teeth left. Complete dentures sit directly on your gums, and because they are false, you w ill not feel any sensation in them. It may take some time for you to feel comfortable talking and eating with your new dentures. Partial dentures are attached to the natural teeth in your mouth and used to fill in any missing spaces. Unless they are fixed partial dentures, like a bridge, you’ll be able to take them in and out of your mouth whenever you want.
