What are degenerative spinal diseases?

Degenerative spinal diseases are a general term for any disorder of the spinal column caused by damage to the bone and soft tissue. Over time, natural strain on the spinal column can lead to chronic back and neck pain. While typically associated with the aging process, degenerative spinal diseases may also be caused by tumors, viral infections, arthritis, or muscle strains. There are several types of degenerative spinal diseases, including herniated disks, compression of nerves (spinal stenosis), and arthritis of the spinal joints (spondylosis).
