One typically faints when there is decreased blood going to the brain whether it is from a drop in blood pressure, inefficient pumping of blood to the brain from an abrupt irregular heartbeat, severe heart valve disease or potentially tightening of the vessels that feed the brainstem or both of the cerebral hemispheres. You should consult your doctor if you have a problem with fainting spells.
