    Amalgam is typically composed of a mixture of silver, copper, tin and mercury, all of which combine to form a strong and stable tooth filling material. It is safe and effective, durable, easy to use, highly resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive compared with other materials.

    It is one of the oldest filling materials and has been used (and improved) for more than 150 years. Dental amalgam is the most thoroughly researched and tested filling material.
