    Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:
Online support groups are popular alternatives to face-to-face fibromyalgia support groups. Sometimes, the idea of going to a support meeting feels as exciting as the prospect of heading to the DMV. Or you just might not feel ready to look someone else in the face and tell your story. With an online support group, you can write down your questions on the fibromyalgia message boards and get feedback from others who live with fibromyalgia. You can use a pen name or anonymous name to protect your privacy. If insomnia is a big problem, you can always go on the fibromyalgia boards on the web and chat with others. Even at 3 a.m., you're sure to find other folks with fibro in the same sleepless boat.

    Dr. Michael Roizen answered:
If you are nervous about joining a face-to-face fibromyalgia support group, try an online support group. Strong social support is important for coping with any chronic illness. While an online support group is not your private talk therapy group, it can offer you a safe place to share your feelings about living with fibromyalgia. Many people with fibromyalgia thrive in online support groups, as they are able to vent, ask questions, talk about new treatments, and receive compassionate answers from others who live with fibromyalgia.

Simply joining the Fibromyalgia Network and/or Fibromyalgia Coalition International to receive their ongoing newsletters can be very helpful. In addition, there are many people reporting online such as John Herd. Although Mr. Herd focuses on CFS, his reports are quite pertinent to fibromyalgia as well.
