    Johns Hopkins Medicine answered:

A deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap procedure is a procedure used to reconstruct a woman's breast following cancer treatment.

Your breast reconstructive surgeon will do everything possible to make your breasts look and feel as natural as possible. While you will have scars at the tissue donor site as well as on the reconstructed breast, they tend to be well-hidden by standard clothing. Often you will require a final surgery after your DIEP flap in order to make your breasts as symmetric and natural-looking as possible. You should discuss all your concerns with your plastic and reconstructive surgeon, as well as your expectations for your post-surgery appearance and recovery. Your surgeon should be able to show you photos of other patients' results.
