Lori Maggioni answered:What you choose to eat during your pregnancy may influence you and your baby’s health for years to come. Take this time to review and revamp your nutrition!
Total weight gain should be between 25–30 lbs. for women of normal weight (BMI 18.5–24.9). Weight gain should be slow and steady:
- Between 2 – 5 lbs. gained in the 1st trimester
- 1 lb. per week for remainder of pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimesters)
It is recommended that women who are underweight (BMI <18.5) to gain more weight during pregnancy, approximately 28–40 lbs. Women who are overweight (BMI 25–29.9) or obese (BMI 30 or more) should gain less weight during the pregnancy: 15– 25 lbs. and 11–20 lbs., respectfully.
Pregnancy is NOT a time to lose weight. Consult your health care provider right away if you have nausea, vomiting, lose your appetite or lose weight. Balanced nutrition is important for a healthy baby, a healthy mom, and a healthy family!

Pregnancy is not a time to diet. In fact, it is important that you gain enough weight so that your baby can grow to a healthy weight.
