    Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:

Not entirely. You might not be able to prevent them, but you could hold them off for a while. Even though heredity can be a factor in when you will get age spots, sun exposure is also a culprit. So, to help postpone an onslaught of age spots, limit your sun exposure and be sure to wear sunscreen.

Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing to safeguard your skin from the sun's harmful rays.

There really is no such thing as an age spot. What most people refer to as age spots are actually large freckles that are caused by the sun.

These spots called lentigenes are common on the backs of the hands and the face. The only way to prevent them is to avoid unnecessary sun exposure.
