Room-temperature formula is fine for babies (even from day one) and easier for you. Although it’s not necessary, if you would like to warm the formula (or your mother insists that you do), go ahead. Use a bottle warmer, run the bottle under warm running water, or let it sit in a pot of warm water. Do not microwave, as this can cause hot pockets in the formula that may inadvertently burn your baby. Always make sure to shake the bottle before testing the temperature (a few drops on your inner wrist works well) because some areas in the bottle may be warmer than others. As your baby gets older, transition to mixing your formula with room temperature water. Remember that if your baby gets used to drinking warm formula, you will run into problems when you are out and don’t have a way to warm the formula to the desired temperature. Even premature babies have been successfully fed refrigerated formula. It’s all about what your baby gets used to.

You can warm your baby's formula if you would like, but try to make it easy for yourself. Room temperature formula is safe for your baby and easy for you.

If you do choose to warm the formula, never use the microwave and always check the temperature on your own skin first. You can get uneven heating with microwave ovens. This is dangerous as you may check the formula temperature before giving it to your baby and it seems fine. Unfortunately, there may be very hot liquid another level down.
