Just as bacteria can develop resistance to antibiotics, the viruses that cause viral skin infections can develop resistance to antiviral drugs. Unfortunately, because it is harder to target viruses, which reproduce inside host (human) cells, it is also harder to develop antiviral drugs than it is to develop antibacterial ones. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions for both antibiotics and antivirals so that the chances of drug resistance are lowered.
