Ultrasound uses sound waves delivered at a frequency above the human range of hearing that are applied to the muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues of the back. This may help increase relaxation, decrease inflammation, and improve pain of tender points. Ultrasound is more commonly used for acute back pain and other similar situations than for chronic pain. However, if you try it and it gives relief, ultrasound can be done by a physical therapist.
