The treatment options for secondary high blood pressure depend on the cause of the condition. If your high blood pressure is the result of a kidney disorder, treating that disorder may fix the problem or at least help to lower your blood pressure. If the problem is a narrowed artery your doctor may be able to fix it using a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention, or PCI. PCI basically involves inserting a tube with a balloon on the end of it into your artery and then blowing up the balloon to expand it. In other cases the part of the artery being affected can simply be bypassed to take it out of the equation. Either of these procedures may be able to cure your high blood pressure completely. In the event that your secondary high blood pressure is the result of a pheochromocytoma, a tumor in your adrenal gland, the problem might be corrected by having the tumor removed. If none of these procedures are able to lower your blood pressure your doctor may prescribe medications called antihypertensives to help.
