    Common treatments for inflammation such as anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or aspirin) or steroids (such as prednisone), though often useful for acute problems, interfere with the body’s own immune response and may lead to serious side effects. The benefits of statin cholesterol-lowering drugs such as Lipitor may be due as much to their anti-inflammatory effects as to their cholesterol-lowering ones. Low-dose aspirin may help reduce the risk of heart attacks and colon cancer for the same reason.
