What are the treatment options for neonatal sepsis?
-
Neonatal sepsis is almost always the result of bacterial infection, and the primary treatment for it is antibiotics. Antibiotic treatment is usually begun even before the diagnosis has been confirmed by laboratory tests. Ampicillin is used frequently, but a variety of antibiotics may be prescribed, depending on the type of bacteria and the nature of the infection. Antibiotic treatment is sometimes supplemented with blood or platelet transfusions.
