Dysmenorrhea is treated with healthy eating, exercise, yoga and massage. Anti-inflammatories such as Advil and Aleve are also helpful. Warm compresses provide some relief. Acupuncture and acupressure have been found to relieve dysmenorrhea. Calcium and magnesium may also be helpful.

When dysmenorrhea becomes debilitating birth control pills will often be prescribed and that will diminish the menstrual flow and the cramps.
