  1. If your bladder stones are very small, sometimes you can help them pass just by drinking more water. Larger bladder stones can be broken apart using a procedure known as a cystolitholapaxy. For this procedure, your doctor will need to use a cystoscope to locate your bladder stones. A laser or ultrasound device can be used to break up the bladder stones. Your doctor will flush the broken stones from your bladder.

    If your bladder stones are exceptionally large or dense, you might need open surgery. If so, your doctor will remove bladder stones through an incision in your bladder wall.
