Veterans with depression can be treated with medication, therapy, or – ideally -- a combination of the two. Your symptoms will improve faster and stay away longer when you combine antidepressants with talk therapy. Medication is usually prescribed early on in treatment and is continued during the maintenance phase to keep you from relapsing. There are different kinds of therapy, but all of them use communication as the primary tool for working through painful thoughts and memories, to ultimately change your feelings and behavior.
