Will I be transferred to a hospital room after the ER?

If you have a condition that requires hospital admission you will be transferred to the most appropriate area of the hospital. For example, if you need ICU you will be taken by staff to the ICU. If you need a regular hospital room you will be taken there. If your condition does not require admission you will be discharged home with your family or significant other.

Once you have been evaluated in the emergency room, there are five different things that can happen:

• The emergency room doctor may decide after exam and some treatment you can go home. 
• If you need emergency surgery, you will go straight to surgery.
• If you are critical, you will go to the intensive care unit.
• If the hospital does not provide a certain service you need, you may be transferred to another hospital.
• If you need to be hospitalized for a short time and /or stable, you will go to a hospital room.
