However, the condition can often be treated by taking prescribed antibiotics intravenously and orally. Antibiotics prevent infection and also prevent early delivery of the baby. The pregnant mother is usually hospitalized and strictly observed. If the lungs of the fetus are already mature, labor may be induced synthetically. Corticosteroids are prescribed if rupture of the fetal membranes occurs earlier than 32 weeks of pregnancy. Corticosteroid medication helps mature the lungs of the baby.
