Are there any risks in taking lisinopril?

You should not take lisinopril while pregnant or breastfeeding. Lisinopril increases your risk of serious infection. Talk to your doctor if you develop a fever, chills or any other signs of infection. Lisinopril can increase your risk of dangerously low blood pressure. If you experience dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting while taking lisinopril, talk to your doctor. Lisinopril also can increase the risk of dangerously high potassium levels, especially if you use a potassium supplement or salt substitute while taking lisinopril. Many people, especially those on dialysis, have severe allergic reactions to lisinopril or other ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitors. Talk to your doctor about any allergies, kidney problems or dialysis before taking lisinopril. It can increase the risk of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, in diabetics. Lisinopril can increase the risk of angioedema, or swelling, in the neck, head and intestines. Lisinopril can increase the risk of damage to the liver or kidneys. If you experience fatigue, nausea, back pain, decreased urine output or yellowing of the skin and eyes while taking lisinopril, it could be a symptom of liver or kidney problems.
