If you have combination skin, a dermatologist may make a few simple recommendations that can help you look your best. When you have combination skin, your forehead, nose, and chin may be oily, while your cheeks and neck tend to be dry. Your doctor may advise you to use a mild cleanser and a moisturizer labeled "noncomedogenic," which means it won't clog pores. Apply the moisturizer lightly to your oily areas and more generously to your dry areas. Your dermatologist may also suggest using a toner on your oily areas, which can help to remove dead skin cells.

Since combination skin means there are two competing skin types, it may be necessary to use more than one skincare product to achieve your skin care goals. Milky textured cleansers can rid the skin of excess oil without excessive dehydration to the cheek area. These types of cleansers will give the skin a squeaky-clean feel, while leaving the skin supple and soft. Using a combination skin toner under a lightweight moisturizer will help control oil and shine, bind moisture to the skin where it is needed, and also protect the skin from sun damage.

While normal/combination skin is easy to care for, be sure to use ingredients such as petrolatum, mineral oil, vegetable oils, silicone polymer, dimethicone, cyclomethicone, and polyvinvlpyrrolidone (PVP).
