Symptoms of stage 3 melanoma begin with growths on the skin. These growths usually involve a change in a mole that you already have, or the melanoma may form a new skin growth. Generally, melanoma is found on skin that's exposed to the sun, but lesions can form anywhere on the skin, including under fingernails and even internally. Normal moles usually have smooth edges, are symmetrical, and have a uniform color, so if you notice a mole that doesn't fit those characteristics, you should see a doctor. Other symptoms of melanoma include itchiness, scaliness, or oozing on a skin lesion. In stage 3 melanoma, the cancerous growths have penetrated through the skin and underlying layer of fat and tissue, and the cancer has reached the lymph nodes closest to the melanoma.
