What surgical options are available to treat PDA?

When neither medications nor minimally invasive treatment options are appropriate, surgical closure of the ductus arteriosus is an option. The procedure is performed through a surgical incision between the ribs in the side of the chest called a thoracotomy. The patent ductus arteriosus is then closed using either surgical strings called sutures or with clips.
