Are there any stretches I can perform to prevent shoulder injuries?
-
National Academy of Sports Medicine answered:Yes, there a number of good stretches that can be performed to help prevent shoulder injuries. With the advancements in technology and the increased use of computers, it is very easy for individuals to develop what is often called "s;desk posture"s;, which is indicative of a rounded shoulder and forward head posture. This posture forces the muscles in front of your shoulder and the back of the neck to become tight, often leading to shoulder and neck pain. Some basic stretches that can be performed to combat the risk of these injuries are to statically stretch your chest muscles (or pectorals), your back muscles (or your latissimus dorsi, which is a large muscle that runs up the side of your back and attaches to the upper arm), and your upper neck muscles (or trapezius). Hold each stretch for 30 seconds to allow the muscle time to relax and elongate.
