I strained my groin playing basketball; what can I do to recover?

National Academy of Sports Medicine answered:Immediately following the strain, make sure you use ice on the injury 2-3 times per day for 20 minutes. In between ice sessions, you can gently increase your flexibility using two different techniques. First, you can foam roll your inner thigh. Hold each tender spot for about 20 seconds. Then, you can gently stretch the inner thigh muscle. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds and repeat.

Burke Lennihan RN CCH answered:Use Arnica if the injury is more in the belly of the muscle, and Ruta grav. if it’s where the muscle attaches to the bone. Ruta grav. is a homeopathic remedy which works quickly to heal a tear in tendons and ligaments.
Get the 30c potency (strength) of either remedy and dissolve a couple of pellets in your mouth two to four times a day (more frequently if your symptoms are recent and intense, less frequently as time goes on and your symptoms subside). These remedies are available in any natural food store or online, for example from www.homeopathic.com.
You can also support your recovery with natural remedies like. Vitamin C, plenty of protein, the tissue salt Calc. Fluor. 6x, and the herbal remedy Rue (Ruta). These are all used to strengthen connective tissue. (That’s what tendons and ligaments are made from.)
Note that Ruta 30c, the homeopathic remedy, is best for healing a tendon injury, while Rue or Ruta the herbal extract provides nutritional support to strengthen your tendon and prevent re-injury. If your natural food store doesn’t have Rue, you can order it online. I use the HerbPharm brand (look under Single Extracts). Take a dropper full twice a day in water or juice.
As for Calc. Fluor., it’s a blend of two minerals prepared in a special energized form that strengthens connective tissue. Be sure to get the tissue salt or cell salt form (you can tell because the label will say 6x, which is the strength – it doesn’t mean to take it six times a day.) If your natural food store doesn’t have it, you can get it online, for example at www.1-800-homeopathy.com.
