Although you may not see changes in muscles size for roughly 4 to 6 weeks of training, strength gains may be noticed immediately after beginning a resistance training program. This is due to the nervous system "waking up" dormant muscle fibers that have not been used to this capacity for a while. The more muscle fibers that your nervous system wakes up, the stronger the overall muscle becomes. So it is possible that you are able to lift more weight from session to session after you start a weight training program.
