Spina bifida may be associated with bladder control problems. In spina bifida, which appears at birth, part of the vertebral bones do not seal off completely. This causes some of the spinal cord to be left exposed through the opening. Spina bifida most often results in neurogenic bladder. This is the loss of bladder control caused by nerve damage.
