Johns Hopkins Medicine answered:The stomach pain, nausea, and other problems that are common symptoms for sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SODS) are unfortunately common to other ailments. So to properly determine whether you have SODS, your doctor is most likely to turn to these tests:
- Blood tests of your pancreatic and liver enzymes
- Hepatobiliary scintigraphy, which measures whether your liver and biliary tracts have become too narrow for liquids to flow properly
- Endoscope retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), in which an endoscope helps look into the biliary ducts and take certain measurements the doctor needs.
- Manometry - Considered the "gold standard" of tests for SODS, manometry is performed at the same time as an ERCP. It looks for too-high pressures in your sphincter.
