National Academy of Sports Medicine answered:
A combination between swimming and gymnastics, divers have unique nutrition needs to fuel their intense training designed to optimize both skill and power. Because of the explosive nature of the sport, many divers train like power-athletes, and rely primarily on the anaerobic energy systems and thus require a diet that is rich in carbohydrates. However a lot of their training is skill based and explosive in nature, so total energy expenditure during training is likely to be lower compared to some other water sports. Thus, attention to total energy requirement is an important part of the nutrition program. To have enough energy, and replace lost glycogen as quickly as possible with a common two-a-day training schedule (water and dry land), divers must refuel as soon as possible after practice with a 3:1 carbohydrate: protein ratio (i.e. chocolate milk or a recovery drink product).
